If you’re an early reader of Proof of Concept, you’ll know I’m a huge Simpsons fan. In Season 4, there was an episode called “So it’s come to this: a Simpsons clip show.” This episode started with some original content of a prank Bart played on Homer resulting in him being put in a coma. From there, the family looked back at moments that resulted in replays of clips in past episodes. The staff was overworked and the intention of this is to provide relief.

Clips from a Simpsons clip show

I have a few things that need my deep attention and wanted to use this as a way to deliver something of value to you while giving myself some more time. Lenny Rachitsky’s The Best of Lenny’s Newsletter also inspired this. Here’s a look back at some of the newsletters I enjoyed writing. Without further ado, here’s your clip show.

Creativity and Design

  • Understanding iconic design

  • WTF is a product designer?

  • What’s exciting about web3?

  • Go for broke: create like you have no money

  • Screens were a mistake: work analog

Techniques

  • Sketching as a strategy

  • Design for no-coders

  • How I make content for this newsletter

  • Writing with Obsidian

  • Sketch, scan, build

Career

  • The career “what if?”

  • The future reunion

  • Design management Q&A

  • There’s always more cheese

  • Your career hype doc

Those were a few in the past 63 issues! If there is one you enjoyed specifically, please share and let me know! Writing Proof of Concept has been so therapeutic for me to have a space to share and express with a community of readers like you.

Tweet of the week

Chris Harrington annotates a great critique of an older version of iTunes on some of the elements that make great UI Design (this can be an issue in itself). Look at that brushed metal!

Notes for UI designers who have lost their way.
Screenshot of iTunes circa MacOS X 10.1, with my notes added calling out various UI elements that were good, and which no longer seem to be used in modern UIs.
